About the workshop
The Technical Communication – Fundamentals workshop was launched in 2011. The philosophy was to create a workshop for new or relatively inexperienced technical writers to establish a solid and professional foundation for a career in this area.
The workshop has been designed and developed by Mette Nyberg, Technical Writer at e-boks A/S and Per Frederiksen, owner and founder of Write2Users. The design process started back in 2008-2010, when Mette and Per both worked at 7-Technologies, and tutored new technical writers in the company.
Over the years, W2U has hosted the workshop many times in Denmark and Sweden, both as public workshops and onsite workshops. The training material never rests – it is continuously improved and updated. To cater for recent trends in technical communication, we have added a section about Agile development methodology.
The target audience for this workshop is technical writers with 0-5 years of experience. However, many of the writers who attend the workshop have more than 10 years of experience and still feel inspired and updated.
If you write manuals/online help and want to learn best practices, you are the perfect audience for this workshop. As instructors we have over 50 years of experience with technical writing, so you can learn from the mistakes we have made over the years.
You will learn about concepts and methods such as Topic Based Authoring and Single Sourcing. Topic Based Authoring chunks your documentation into smaller pieces of content and Single Sourcing means reusing texts and images throughout your documentation set. This allows you to create content once and reuse it as many times as required.
